Social Media And Sports Teams

In my opinion, many sports teams are utilizing social media incorrectly, are missing opportunities, and are actually damaging their image.

Facebook and twitter are much more than score updates and in-game sports info machines. The best sports team social media platforms “paint the picture” of the game experience for the fan at home. The goal is to at least get that fan to tune-in or follow the game online, but ultimately to buy a ticket.

The BEST social media platforms by teams expand on the game experience to the 24/7 experience. I received a fan e-mail once stating that, “I go directly to the team facebook fan page EVERY DAY to get my updates and to stay connected – more so than I do to [the team home page on the school sports website].” We did this through a multi-media, multi-content mix from our internal sources and external, credible and reliable sources – both from traditional media and fans.

Any business, not just a sports team, can take this approach and be wildly successful with connecting and engaging their customers and potential customers.

Talk to us today on how we can accomplish this for your sports team or property. Trust me, fans don’t want to see 10 or 15 posts/tweets in a row on score updates and “it’s halftime”….snooze. Boring. Sucks.

Sure that platform might have 50,000+ followers, but isn’t it weird then when only 3 people “Like” or “re-tweet” a message airing to 50,000 or 100,000 fans?
